You can find more information regarding our English-language proficiency requirement on our admissions prospective student website. If after reviewing all available resources you still have questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact us.
The English-language proficiency requirement can be fulfilled in any one of the following three ways:
Option 1: Test Score
We accept the following exams:
- TOEFL: 90 out of 120 (TOEFL iBT and MyBest scores are acceptable)
- Duolingo: 125
- IELTS Academic Format (online or in-person): 7.0
- DAAD: C1
- TEM-4 or TEM-8: Level 70
- Cambridge: C1 Advanced
Please note, all submitted scores must be official copies and taken within the past two years.
Option 2: Waiver
A waiver of the English-language requirement is granted to applicants if any of the following circumstances have been met:
- One year of full-time college level instruction completed entirely in the English language
- Successful completion of a university-level program in a country or region where English is the official language
- You are from a country or region on the exempt list
Notes:
- Your transcripts or other official documentation should reflect that your coursework was completed entirely in English.
- If you are requesting a waiver based on English-medium university instruction, you may upload either a transcript or a letter from your university confirming that English was the method of instruction for all courses.
Option 3: English Screening
Important! The English Screening option is available only for the Spring 2027 application cycle. It will no longer be an option for Fall 2027 or future application terms.
Request an English-language screening with our Berkeley Global Staff:
The one-hour screening takes place over Zoom and will test your speaking, listening, and writing skills.
Please note, for this option, you will need to select 'I would like to request an English Screening' in your application. Instructions on how to schedule your screening will be provided to you.
Appointment times are limited and you must submit your application by the priority deadline to be eligible for this option.
